Story

Supported Employment and Empowerment Programs – S.E.E.P

Founded in 2008 in Greensboro, North Carolina, One Community, One Voice, One Vision 501c3 is the brainchild of Demetrius L. Brown and Yolanda Sallis. Demetrius was inspired to action after watching a TV commercial that depicted underprivileged children yearning for Christmas gifts. It struck a chord, reminding him of his own challenging childhood when an accident incapacitated his mother, casting a shadow over their Christmases. Recalling the ache of watching other kids revel in their new gifts, and remembering his mother’s own sense of helplessness, Demetrius resolved to help families avoid that same emotional toll. That very night in 2008, he initiated the “I Wish For A Christmas” program.
By 2010, One Community, One Voice, One Vision had attained its 501c3 status and inaugurated its Supported Employment and Employment Programs, known as S.E.E.P. Tailored to serve individuals with low to moderate income, S.E.E.P also extends its services to those with disabilities or other obstacles to education and employment, with a particular focus on veterans and their families. S.E.E.P.’s multi-faceted components include:
  • Career Development in Broadcasting Technology
  • Self-Sufficiency and Continuing Education
  • Personal Empowerment and Skill-Building
  • Emergency Assistance and Agency Referrals
  • Community Seminars, Workshops, and Youthful Offender Interventions
